A desperate search is underway for missing British dad Jason Taylor, who mysteriously vanished at Alicante-Elche Airport in Spain after leaving the boarding queue for his flight back to the UK. The 40-year-old engineer from Wales was in Benidorm on a stag do and was due to fly home to Birmingham on Saturday morning, but failed to board the plane.
His family has since flown to Spain to aid in the search, as concerns grow over his unexplained disappearance. Spanish authorities are leading the investigation, with assistance from Interpol and British police, who have now placed alerts on Jason’s passport to track potential movements.
CCTV footage obtained by Spanish police shows Jason stepping away from the boarding queue after experiencing issues with his boarding pass. According to a family friend named Gaz, Jason had lost his phone and needed assistance obtaining a replacement boarding pass from another group member who had already passed through security.
“We tried several times to scan his boarding pass but it was not accepted and the gate wouldn’t open,” Gaz explained. “An error message came up telling us to contact the airline.”
Jason was reportedly not under the influence of alcohol or suffering from any illness at the time. One friend stayed behind with him while he sought help, but that was the last time anyone heard from him.
Jason’s wife, who travelled to Spain shortly after raising the alarm, told local media outlet The Spanish Eye: “We have no idea what happened. He was separated from the group and maybe stepped away to clear his head. Since then, we’ve heard nothing.”
Despite the emotional toll, she praised the local community for rallying around her family. “The support here has been overwhelming. Loads of locals have volunteered to help search, and we are so grateful,” she said.
Popular YouTuber Azzie the Gamer, who is Jason’s brother-in-law, issued an emotional plea to his followers on Monday: “Please help find my brother-in-law. Spanish authorities have placed the region on high alert.”
With Jason’s passport flagged internationally and Interpol now involved, the hope is that any attempt to travel or cross borders will quickly raise red flags.
Anyone in Spain or the UK with information about Jason Taylor’s whereabouts is urged to contact local authorities or the British Embassy in Madrid immediately.
Updates on the investigation are expected in the coming days.
