Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent triple stabbing on Clapham High Street on Thursday night.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A3 at the junction with Bedford Road shortly after 9pm. The incident unfolded beneath the railway bridge near Clapham North station and brought a large police presence to the busy south London road.
One man treated at the scene as others present at hospital
Paramedics found one man at the scene suffering from stab wounds. He was treated on-site before being taken to a major trauma centre as a priority. Two other men later arrived at hospital with similar injuries.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that all three have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. None of the injuries have been described as life-threatening or life-changing.
Forensic investigation underway
A cordon remains in place around part of the A3 as forensic teams continue their investigation. The southbound carriageway of Clapham High Street remains closed between Bedford Road and Aristotle Road, with police urging the public to avoid the area.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Thursday, April 10, police were called to Clapham High Street following reports of a stabbing. Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. One man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital. Two further men self-presented at hospital. All three have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing.”
Road closures cause disruption for commuters
The road closure has affected multiple bus routes including the 50, 88, 155, 322 and 345, though traffic is said to be coping well. Commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time during the morning rush.
The London Ambulance Service said they dispatched ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. The first medic arrived within four minutes.
Investigators are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the stabbings.
