Sad update as body found in search for missing student

body has been found in the search for missing student Zakaria Chowdhury, police have confirmed.

The 20-year-old, also known as Zak, was reported missing after he was last seen in Newcastle city centre in the early hours of Friday, February 7.

Extensive Search Efforts

Northumbria Police carried out extensive enquiries to locate Zak, with support from specialist teams including the Drone and Marine Unit and Dog Section.

On Friday, March 14, his body was discovered in the River Tyne on the Newcastle Quayside.

Police Statement

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Ashurst, of Northumbria Police, said:

“This is an incredibly tragic outcome, and our thoughts are with Zakaria’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

“We will continue to support them in any way we can – and we’d ask that their privacy is respected.”

“We’d like to thank everyone who shared our appeals, contacted us with information, and supported our search activity.”

Coroner’s Report to Follow

A report will now be prepared for the coroner as investigations into Zak’s disappearance conclude.

Zakaria’s family continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.
