An inmate at Wolverhampton’s HMP Brinsford, 27-year-old father-of-three McCauley Doran, has died while serving the final months of his sentence for kidnap and robbery. The Prison Service confirmed that Doran passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service stated: “McCauley Doran died on March 19, 2025 at HMP Brinsford. As with all deaths in custody, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”
Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details about the circumstances of Doran’s death have been released.
Doran had been one of three men convicted of a brutal kidnapping and robbery that took place on April 11. Alongside his accomplices, Liam Mattinson and Kye Fox, Doran kidnapped David Bevan in Bury, threatening him with an iron bar and a knife before robbing him of £25,000 worth of property, including a £17,000 watch.
Mr. Bevan was eventually thrown out of the vehicle on Lansdowne Road, Middleton. The trauma of the ordeal has reportedly left him feeling anxious and fearful whenever cars pass him on the street.
During sentencing, Judge Peter Lawton acknowledged the profound impact the attack had on Mr. Bevan, stating: “Understandably, Mr Bevan says he’s feeling anxious and paranoid when walking down the street and feels scared when cars pull up beside him.”
Addressing the trio of attackers, the judge remarked: “All three of you are young men with turbulent backgrounds and substantial criminal records, but nothing of this scale before.”
The Prison and Probation Ombudsman will conduct a thorough investigation into Doran’s death, and more details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
