Police launch murder probe into missing woman

Police investigating the disappearance of Charlene Hobbs, who was last seen in Cardiff in July 2024, have now launched a murder inquiry as fears grow over her fate.

Last Known Sighting and Investigation Progress

The 36-year-old woman was last captured in a photograph taken at a property in Broadway, Adamsdown, at 06:07 BST on 24 July 2024. Prior to this, she was seen on CCTV in a Morrisons store in Adamsdown the day before.

South Wales Police have interviewed over 250 people in their efforts to locate Charlene, but no evidence has surfaced to confirm she is still alive.

Det Ch Insp Matt Powell stated:

“Several of those we have spoken to believe that she has died but no-one has been able to provide any specific details.”

Crimestoppers Offers £20,000 Reward

Crimestoppers has now offered a reward of up to £20,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Charlene’s disappearance.

Det Ch Insp Powell urged the local community to come forward:

“I still firmly believe that answers lie in the community, and that someone out there holds key information that will help us find Charlene.”

Suspects and Police Action

•A 45-year-old man remains on police bail in connection with the case.

• A 43-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were released without charge.

Charlene’s Family Still Hopeful

Charlene’s family continues to hope for her safe return and have expressed gratitude for the public’s support and the reward announcement.

“We still hope that Charlene can be found safe and well. We are grateful for the support of Crimestoppers and the reward to help us find her, and hope that this will help people to come forward with information about what has happened to Charlene.”

Charlene has a distinctive dragon tattoo on her back, which could help in identifying her.
