An investigation has been launched after an 11-year-old girl brought a knife to school, prompting concern among parents and the wider community. The incident took place at Lingham Primary School in Moreton, Wirral, on Tuesday 25 March, and was reported to Merseyside Police around 2.20pm.
The force confirmed that a kitchen knife had been brought from home and was discovered during the school day. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and the weapon was promptly seized. According to reports, the incident unfolded during a group play session among pupils, when the knife was produced.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said:
“We understand the concern that such incidents can cause, especially at one of our junior schools. Officers will remain in liaison with the school and our partners to offer reassurance to pupils, parents, carers and staff alike. In the meantime, should you have any information about young people carrying weapons, please come forward.”
Lingham Primary School confirmed the incident, stating that staff acted swiftly and appropriately. “We are undertaking all necessary actions and suitable safeguarding measures have been implemented to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our pupils,” a spokesperson said.
No arrests have been reported at this stage, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Local police and school leaders are now working together to ensure pupils are supported and to prevent any future incidents. Parents with concerns are encouraged to contact the school directly or speak to local officers who will remain visible in the area in the coming days.
