A tragic discovery has been made outside a church in Notting Hill, London, where a newborn baby was found dead inside a bag. The incident occurred at St Stephen’s Westbourne Park church, a Grade II listed building located at the end of Talbot Road.
The Metropolitan Police reported that officers were called at 12:46 PM on Tuesday, March 25, to Talbot Road, W11, following reports of a baby’s body being found in a bag left outside the church. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended the scene, but sadly, the baby was pronounced dead on arrival.
The gender and exact age of the baby have yet to be determined, and police have launched an urgent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers remain in the area conducting inquiries and are appealing for information to help identify and locate the baby’s mother.
Superintendent Owen Renowden addressed the distressing incident, saying:
“This is an extremely sad and shocking matter, and officers are working hard to establish the circumstances around what has taken place. This investigation is in the early stages, and our immediate priority is to locate the baby’s mother, who we believe may have very recently given birth.
“If you are the baby’s mother and are reading this, please come forward to police or medical professionals. You must feel very frightened, but please let us help – we are really worried about you, and it is vitally important you get medical assistance and support. You can walk into any hospital or a police station.”
The police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Concerned members of the public are encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting reference CAD 3431/25March.
Authorities are also stressing the importance of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the baby’s mother, who may be in urgent need of medical assistance and emotional support.
