Police Searching for Clues in Unexplained Death
An ongoing police investigation is underway after skeletal remains were discovered near Festival Park, leaving several key questions unanswered. The human remains were found by a passerby on Sunday, March 2, close to a Morrisons supermarket, prompting authorities to launch a full forensic inquiry.
Investigation Focuses on Identifying the Deceased
Since the discovery, Staffordshire Police have been searching the wooded area for evidence that could help establish the identity of the deceased. A cordon was set up, blocking a nearby footpath, while several blue forensic tents were erected at the scene.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson provided an update on the investigation, stating:
“Our investigation is ongoing, and we’re working hard to progress a number of inquiries to help us identify the remains and how they ended up there. We are currently treating this as an unexplained death.”
Missing Person Records Under Review
Police are now reviewing missing persons records, with reports indicating that certain names have attracted particular interest in the investigation. It is hoped that forensic testing will soon confirm the identity of the deceased and potentially provide closure for a missing person’s family.
Forensic officers in white suits have been seen entering and exiting the site, gathering evidence from inside the blue tents as part of the ongoing operation.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. A police spokesperson previously stated:
“We were called to reports of skeletal remains found by a member of the public on land near Festival Park. We can now confirm that the remains are human but at this time have not been formally identified. A scene is in place while investigators examine the scene.”
Staffordshire Police have asked witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 397 of 2 March, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
This remains a developing story, with further updates expected as forensic tests continue.
