Mum And Baby Found After Human Placenta Discovered In Park

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a mother and her baby have been located safe and well following the discovery of a human placenta in Werneth Park, Oldham. The alarm was raised when a member of the public found the placenta on Friday, March 29, 2025, prompting emergency services to respond and cordon off the park.

An urgent appeal was launched by GMP to locate the mother and baby to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Shortly after 11 pm on the same day, police confirmed that the mother and baby had been found and were doing well. The identity of those who came forward was verified through inquiries conducted alongside medical professionals.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated:

“Following our earlier appeal in relation to a placenta which was found in Werneth Park, Oldham, earlier today (Friday 28 March 2025), we have now located mum and baby. We are pleased to say that they are both safe and doing well.

“Alongside medical professionals, we have conducted several enquiries and are satisfied that the identity of those who have come forward match the placenta found.

“The scene will now close, and our investigation has concluded that there are no untoward circumstances.

“We want to thank members of the public who have assisted us and cooperated with the closure of the park today, and hope that this update provides closure to any earlier concerns.”

The park is now open to the public again, with authorities reassuring residents that there is no cause for concern.
