Man’s Body Found In Field Next To M60 Motorway

Police have launched an investigation after a man was tragically found dead in a field near the M60 motorway in Whitefield, Greater Manchester.

Emergency services were called to the area near Sandgate Road at approximately 10.45am on Monday, April 14. The body was discovered on open land situated between Prestwich Heys Football Club and Parrenthorn Road.

A large cordon was quickly established as detectives and forensics officers began combing the area for evidence. The scene remained sealed off throughout the afternoon as Greater Manchester Police (GMP) carried out enquiries.

A GMP spokesperson said:

“At around 10.45am yesterday morning (Monday, April 14 2025), we were called to reports of an unconscious male on Sandgate Road in Whitefield, Bury. Officers attended and sadly found a body in nearby open ground. Enquiries into the man’s death are ongoing.”

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His identity has not yet been released, and the cause of death is currently unconfirmed.

Residents reported a significant emergency services presence near the field, located close to a popular footpath near the M60 ring road. The area is often frequented by walkers and dog owners.

Police have not confirmed whether the death is being treated as suspicious, but detectives remain at the scene to determine the full circumstances.
