A 28-year-old man, Gheorghe Berceanu, is facing a potential prison sentence after indecently exposing himself to shoppers, including two children, outside an Asda store in Newcastle.
Incident Caught on CCTV
The disturbing incident took place at 6:20 pm on February 1, 2025, when Berceanu was spotted by a concerned customer, who quickly alerted Asda security.
Prosecutor Lesley Burgess told Newcastle Magistrates’ Court that CCTV footage clearly captured Berceanu lowering his trousers and underwear, exposing himself in the supermarket car park.
“His trousers were down, however, he then goes on to remove his underwear, revealing his bottom and genitals,” Ms Burgess stated.
The footage also showed multiple cars and shoppers, including two young children, nearby during the act.
Explicit Outburst Inside Store
After exposing himself, Berceanu entered the Asda store, where he was heard shouting:
“I want to f** every woman who walks past.”*
The lewd behaviour caused alarm among shoppers, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.
Court Proceedings and Possible Sentencing
• Berceanu pleaded guilty to one charge of exposure.
•Defence solicitor Adrian Ions indicated there would be “significant mitigation” at the sentencing hearing.
•Judge Kate Meek has ordered a pre-sentence report by the probation service before deciding on an appropriate punishment.
Next Court Appearance
• Sentencing Date: April 22, 2025
• Location: Newcastle Magistrates’ Court
Berceanu was released on bail until his next court appearance. Given the serious nature of the offence, he could face a custodial sentence.
