Gunman opens fire on residential street, killing man and injuring another
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally shot in Tottenham on Thursday night. Emergency services were called to Waverley Road, N17, at around 8:45pm following reports that two men had been gunned down in a residential area.
Metropolitan Police officers arrived on the scene along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. They found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head and a second man, aged 26, who had been shot in the leg.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, the older victim could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Appeal for witnesses
Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, who leads policing in Tottenham, issued a public appeal for information. She said: “Two men were shot on a residential street last night, with one man sadly losing his life. We recognise the impact this will have on the local community. We have multiple officers patrolling the area today, aiming to obtain key evidence and provide reassurance to you.”
She continued: “At this early stage in the investigation, we have not made any arrests. Please do not let this worry you. We have a highly experienced team of investigators making urgent enquiries to find out who committed this act.”
DCS Haines urged anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting to come forward: “If you heard or saw something suspicious, your knowledge is crucial to us, and it may help us locate the suspects. Please do the right thing and come forward, you will be supported.”
