A man is in critical condition in hospital after being knocked unconscious in a violent attack outside a city centre McDonald’s in Liverpool.
Collapse After Single Blow
The victim, a man in his 30s, was punched in the face near the junction of Hanover Street and Ranelagh Street around 7.30pm on Friday night (March 29). The force of the strike caused him to collapse, hitting his head on the pavement and suffering a serious head injury.
He had been visiting Liverpool from out of town for a night out.
Four Arrested Over City Centre Attack
Merseyside Police confirmed that four men, all believed to be known to the victim, have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. The suspects are aged 19, 26, 31 and 37, and come from Redditch, Birmingham, and Hollywood in Worcestershire.
The area outside the McDonald’s restaurant was cordoned off by police as forensic teams carried out their investigation.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry said:
“This assault has left the victim in a critical condition during what should have been an enjoyable night out in Liverpool.”
“People should be able to visit our city centre without any fear of being a victim of – or even witnessing – an incident such as this.”
He added:
“If you were in the area of Church Street and Hanover Street at around 7.30pm on Friday and believe you may have witnessed any part of this incident, we appeal for you to come forward to police.”
“It is vital that anyone responsible for bringing violence to the streets of Merseyside is brought to justice, and we appeal to the public to assist with our enquires into the incident. The information you have could prove vital.”
