A man has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a six-week-old baby boy in Lancashire nearly two years ago.
Baby Huxley Rushed to Hospital with Head Injuries
Emergency services were called to Squires Wood in Fulwood, Preston, at around 1.30am on June 14, 2022. Lancashire Police say they received a report that an infant had been taken to hospital with a serious head injury. The baby, later named as Huxley Sayle, sadly died later that same day.
Man Initially Arrested Days After the Tragedy
Four days after the incident, on June 18, a 31-year-old man from Fulwood was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was later rearrested on suspicion of murder as investigations progressed.
In a statement issued this morning (March 28), Lancashire Police confirmed that Peter Sayle, of Squires Wood, Fulwood, has now been formally charged with murder following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Court Appearance Due This Morning
Sayle, now 33, has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Preston Magistrates Court today (Friday). Officers say the case has been subject to lengthy and detailed investigations over the last 21 months.
Detectives continue to work closely with medical experts and the CPS to gather a full picture of the circumstances surrounding Huxley’s death.
‘Heartbreaking Case’ Says Police as Legal Process Begins
In a statement, Lancashire Police said: “Our thoughts remain with Huxley’s family at this incredibly difficult time. We understand how long and painful the process has been for them, and we are committed to seeing justice done.”
A post-mortem examination was carried out following Huxley’s death, though full details of the findings have not yet been released due to ongoing proceedings.
As the case progresses through the courts, officers are urging the public to refrain from speculation online to allow the legal process to take its course.
