A man has been shot and killed by police at Milton Keynes Central railway station after reports he was armed with a gun.
Emergency services rushed to the station just before 1pm today after the man was seen carrying what was believed to be a firearm.
Armed Officers Open Fire
Thames Valley Police confirmed that armed officers challenged the man before opening fire. Despite life-saving efforts on the platform, he was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.
The station has since been closed and remains cordoned off, with a heavy police presence still at the scene.
Eyewitness Heard ‘Bang’
A witness told Metro: “I just heard a bang and then the ambulances arrived. The station has been closed for a couple hours now.”
Thames Valley Police said in a statement: “Officers from Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police were called to reports of a man carrying a firearm at Milton Keynes railway station, Elder Gate, Milton Keynes, at 12.55pm today.
“Armed officers from Thames Valley Police responded and challenged the man, before shots were fired by police.
“Life-saving actions were immediately taken at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.
“There is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time. We will provide more details as soon as we are able to.”
Station Locked Down
Trains have been suspended and the station remains shut while investigations continue. No further injuries have been reported.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is expected to be informed of the shooting as standard procedure in police-involved fatalities.
