A 25-year-old man has been arrested at Manchester Airport, almost two weeks after a shocking stabbing attack on an elderly woman in Middleton.
Unprovoked Attack Leaves Community in Shock
On March 6, residents in Alkrington were left horrified after a man stabbed a woman in her 70s in what police have described as an unprovoked attack.
•The incident occurred around 11:20 am while the woman was gardening in her front garden on Crow Hill South.
• The attacker fled the scene, prompting a major police response.
•Armed officers swarmed the area, and a nearby primary school was placed on lockdown for safety.
Suspect Arrested at Manchester Airport
After an extensive CCTV review and house-to-house enquiries, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a 25-year-old suspect was arrested upon landing at Manchester Airport.
• He was taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).
•GMP believes the attack was carried out by a man unknown to the victim.
Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage
Detectives are urging the public to review any dashcam footage from the morning of the attack, which could be vital in the investigation.
•Officers believe the suspect was seen:
•Walking along Mainway between 10:57 am – 11:01 am.
•Moving towards Manor Road before returning to Mainway at 11:18 am, after attacking the victim.

“We do believe this to be an unprovoked attack which has left a woman incredibly shaken. We know that this incident caused concern for our communities, but I hope that news of this arrest will provide a small measure of comfort to those who have been affected by this.”
She added:
“Our officers remain in the area to conduct further enquiries and offer reassurance. We are continuing to appeal to the public—particularly those with dashcam footage from that day—as it could be crucial to our investigation.”
