Notorious killer dad Mick Philpott has been left bloodied and bruised after a savage ambush inside one of Britain’s toughest prisons.
Attacked from Behind with Makeshift Weapon
The 68-year-old, jailed for killing six of his children in a house fire, was attacked at HMP Wakefield by a fellow inmate wielding a metal container. The blow left Philpott with two large lumps on the back of his head and multiple bruises.
A source said: “Philpott was in a bad way after the attack – battered and bruised. The other lad pounced on him from behind and whacked him quite a few times.”
No Sympathy Behind Bars
Prisoners reportedly laughed after the incident, with one source saying: “No one had much sympathy. That’s reserved for the six children he murdered.”
Philpott is serving a life sentence for the 2012 blaze at his Derby home which killed Jade, 10, John, 9, Jack, 8, Jesse, 6, Jayden, 5, and Duwayne, 13.
Fiend Set Fire in Twisted Plot
Along with wife Mairead and accomplice Paul Mosley, Philpott set the fire in a twisted plan to frame his ex and gain custody of more children – and possibly a bigger council house. The plan spiralled out of control when the flames took hold and exploded into a fireball.
Emergency Response Inside Wakefield
Guards rushed to stop the attack, which took place on a prison landing. A source said: “The attacker used a flask or container. It was heavy. A few more hits and Philpott could’ve been in real danger.”
Despite the injuries, he was treated in-house to avoid moving him to hospital and drawing media attention. Security around him has now been tightened.
“The Lowest of the Low”
Philpott has long been considered one of the most hated inmates in the UK. “He’s got a target on his back in jail,” said one source. “This was the worst incident since he got sent down.”
Eligible for Parole in 2027
Philpott was jailed in 2013 after a trial that shocked the nation. His wife and Mosley were also jailed, but both have since been released. Philpott remains behind bars at Wakefield and will be eligible for parole in 2027.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate and anyone found guilty of wrongdoing will be punished.”
