A man from Eccles has been jailed after importing large quantities of cannabis through the post and stockpiling the drug at his home.
Cavan Healey, 26, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday, March 26. Police say he played a key role in a drug trafficking operation that saw cannabis shipped from the United States into the UK via the postal system.
Stash Discovered in Bedroom
Healey’s offending came to light following a raid on his home on Langholme Place in Eccles, where officers discovered a significant haul of cannabis and packaging equipment. The drugs, which had been smuggled into the country in vacuum-sealed packages, were found in his bedroom.
During the search, police also seized £1,850 in cash hidden in a black bag, which Healey admitted was proceeds from drug dealing.
Packages Tracked Back to the U.S.
An investigation revealed Healey had received a number of suspicious parcels from the United States over a 12-month period. He used multiple names and addresses in a bid to avoid detection, with several packages intercepted by UK Border Force and found to contain cannabis.
Healey had previously pleaded guilty to the importation of a Class B drug, possession with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property.
Police Warning Over Mail-Based Drug Trade
Detective Constable Daniel Worthington, of GMP’s Challenger Team, said: “Healey’s offending was well-organised and deliberate. He thought he could get away with importing cannabis through the post, but we were able to intercept his operation and gather the evidence needed to put him before the courts.”
“Drugs ruin lives and cause misery in communities. GMP will continue to target individuals who profit from organised crime, no matter how sophisticated or low-profile their operations might appear.”
Healey was sentenced to 42 months in prison.
