British man ‘beaten to death by bouncers’ after he was turned away from bar on holiday

A British tourist has tragically died following an alleged assault by two Thai bouncers outside a karaoke bar in Bangkok, Thailand. Nick Weir, 28, a manager of a packaging company from Salisbury, was reported to have been behaving erratically before the violent encounter occurred around 2am on March 26.

CCTV footage has emerged showing the moments leading up to the incident, allegedly capturing two bouncers dragging Nick to the ground after chasing him on a motorcycle. The tourist, dressed in a floral yellow t-shirt, was reportedly trying to enter the 91karaoke bar when he was turned away and chased by the bouncers.

The video shows the two men, identified as Phurinat, 32, and Boonchou, 29, confronting Nick, who appeared agitated. A violent struggle ensued, with Nick charging at the bouncers before being tackled to the ground. The footage reportedly depicts the men pressing Nick against the pavement for over 10 minutes, as he could be heard pleading for help and shouting in pain.

The altercation unfolded around 200 meters from the karaoke bar. Alarmed passers-by reportedly called emergency services after witnessing the incident. Thai police confirmed that the bouncers contacted medical assistance when Nick was rendered unconscious. However, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thai authorities stated that Nick had been “shouting and causing a commotion” and had been running for nearly half a mile before arriving at the karaoke bar. According to Lieutenant Colonel Apichai Hwanjit, Deputy Superintendent of the Bang Po station, the circumstances surrounding Nick’s death are still being investigated.

“During the scuffle, they pushed and wrestled, causing the foreigner to fall. We are unsure if there was any pressure applied during the fall that caused the death, so we are waiting for the forensic results,” said Lieutenant Colonel Hwanjit.

Nick Weir was a Leeds University graduate who had been working as a packaging manager. The reason behind his erratic behaviour remains unclear.

The UK Foreign Office has acknowledged the incident, with a spokesperson stating: “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Bangkok and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Thai police are currently questioning the two men over the incident. Forensic results are expected to shed light on the cause of Nick Weir’s death. His family has been informed of the tragedy as they seek answers and justice.
