Suspect Arrested After Damaging Vehicle with Knife at St Omer Barracks

A 54-year-old man has been arrested after driving through the barriers of St Omer Barracks in Aldershot before damaging a vehicle with a knife and shouting at guards.

Police were called to the disused Army barracks at 4:30pm on Saturday, March 8, following reports of the incident.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team Called In

Due to comments made by the suspect, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was deployed to the scene. Hampshire Constabulary initially stated the vehicle had been detonated, but later confirmed that no explosives were found, and the car was not exploded.

Police Statement and Arrest Details

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson confirmed:

“We were called at 4:30pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday, March 8) with reports that a man had attempted to enter the St Omer Barracks in Aldershot. It was reported that the man had driven through the barriers before exiting the car, shouting at the guards and damaging the outside of the car with a knife.”

“Officers attended and arrested a 54-year-old man of no fixed abode on suspicion of possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and criminal damage. He remains in police custody at this time.”

“Due to comments made by the man, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team also attended, but confirmed there was no explosive threat.”

Police confirmed no one was injured, and the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances behind the incident.

St Omer Barracks, originally established in 1941, has been partially disused in recent years, with sections being redeveloped for military personnel.
