Police have launched an appeal to identify two men after a woman was allegedly subjected to racial abuse before being pushed down a set of steps on Blackpool seafront.
Lancashire Police have released images of two men they want to speak to as part of an investigation into the incident, which reportedly took place on South Pier Promenade on the evening of May 29.
According to officers, the incident happened at around 6.11pm on one of the resort’s busiest stretches of coastline.
The force says the woman was allegedly racially abused before threats were made against her. It is further alleged that she was then pushed down stairs leading onto the beach.
Police have not disclosed details about the extent of the woman’s injuries, but say enquiries have been ongoing since the incident was first reported.
Now, investigators are asking members of the public to help identify the two men pictured as they seek to progress the case.
The incident is alleged to have taken place as Blackpool’s seafront was busy with visitors enjoying the start of the bank holiday weekend and warmer weather.
South Pier Promenade is one of the town’s most popular tourist areas, attracting thousands of visitors throughout the year.
In a public appeal issued on Monday, Lancashire Police confirmed they are treating the matter as an alleged assault involving racial abuse and threats.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Do you recognise these men? We want to speak to them in connection with our investigation into racist abuse and an assault.
“At 6:11pm on Friday 29th May we were called to reports of racist abuse and assault on South Pier Promenade, Blackpool.
“It was reported that two men racially abused a woman, made threats of violence, and pushed her down the stairs at the beach.”
Police say a number of enquiries have already been carried out since the incident was reported, but officers are now hoping members of the public may be able to provide additional information.
Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed what happened or captured any footage in the area around the time of the alleged assault.
The force has urged people to review CCTV, dashcam and doorbell camera recordings that may have captured the suspects before or after the incident.
Blackpool’s seafront is covered by a large network of public and private cameras, and detectives are continuing to examine available footage as part of the investigation.
Lancashire Police added: “Whilst we have been making enquiries since this was reported to us, we are now in a position to ask for your help.
“If you witnessed this incident, have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, or feel you can help us in any way, please call 101 quoting log 1207 of 29th May.”
No arrests have been announced and enquiries remain ongoing.
Police are urging anyone who recognises the two men pictured, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
