A man in his 30s was hospitalised after being shot in the leg in a suspected targeted attack on Windsor Road in Tuebrook, Liverpool, on the evening of Tuesday 22 April.
Emergency services, including armed police and multiple support units, descended on the scene at around 6.45pm following reports of a firearm discharge. Merseyside Police confirmed that two masked suspects dressed in black fled the area on a bike immediately after the incident.
Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack and have launched an urgent investigation to locate the suspects and the weapon involved. The victim remains in hospital receiving treatment for a leg injury.
Scientific Support vans and uniformed officers were visible at the scene throughout the evening, as police established a cordon and conducted house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.
Residents report hearing gunshots
Neighbours described hearing three to four loud bangs around the time of the shooting. One resident near Albert Road told the Liverpool Echo: “We heard the gunshots. We heard three or four bangs. When you hear a bang, it always goes through your head, but you think, no, surely it’s just fireworks.”
They added: “It wasn’t a big bang. It was loud enough for a bang, but different from a firework in that it was more contained.”
Multiple police vehicles and a heavy forensic presence remained in the area into the evening. According to eyewitnesses, a high-speed police vehicle arrived shortly after the bangs were heard.
Appeal for information
Detective Inspector Jay Halpin urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. He said: “We are in the very early stages of the investigation and we are determined to find the people responsible.”
He added: “To open fire at someone in such a reckless manner could clearly have had much more serious if not fatal consequences. We believe that the suspects fled the area on a bike and enquiries are ongoing to locate them and find the weapon used in this incident.”
He also appealed to local residents to check their CCTV, dashcams and doorbell footage in case any relevant information was captured.
“We know that guns cause misery on our streets and we would ask for the public’s help in coming forward with any bit of information they have so we can find the people responsible,” DI Halpin said.
Police presence remains in the area
Merseyside Police said officers remain in the Tuebrook area to carry out forensic work, review CCTV footage and reassure residents. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
