In a significant police operation in Liverpool city centre this afternoon (Wednesday, 10 April 2025), Merseyside Police descended on the Lord Nelson Hotel on Lord Nelson Street, prompting an active cordon and heightened public concern.
The incident, which unfolded earlier today, led to a heavy police presence outside the building. Eyewitnesses and hotel guests reported being told by staff that they were not allowed to leave the premises, particularly those occupying rooms on the upper floors.
Images captured at the scene showed a man being escorted from the hotel in handcuffs by officers. Forensic investigators from Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) units were also seen entering and later exiting the building, suggesting active enquiries are ongoing within the property.
The Lord Nelson Hotel, once a traditional city centre hotel, is currently understood to operate as a community-based residential accommodation.
Reporter Wes Holmes from the Liverpool Echo, who is covering the scene live, confirmed that police are unsure when the cordon will be lifted. Despite the ongoing investigation, the front entrance of the hotel remains open.
Two individuals at the scene stated their friend, a resident of the hotel, had been advised by staff to remain in his room until further notice. Police have yet to release an official statement detailing the nature of the incident.
The Lord Nelson Street area remains partially restricted as officers continue their enquiries. Merseyside Police have been approached for further comment.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
