Police and Forensic Teams Descend on Ancaster After Shocking Find
A landscape gardener in Ancaster, Lincolnshire, made a grim discovery while working on his garden—human bones buried on the property.
The unexpected find has triggered a major police investigation, with forensic teams deployed to determine the origin and age of the skeletal remains.
Investigation Underway as Police Secure Scene
Lincolnshire Police confirmed that officers were called to Brookside Close on Saturday, March 8, after members of the public discovered the bones.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police stated:
“We are investigating after the remains of a human skeleton were discovered in Ancaster earlier today (March 8). Officers were called to a property on Brookside Close, where the bones were discovered by members of the public.”
“At this stage, it is unknown how old these remains are, and formal identification is yet to take place. There will be a visible police presence in the area as we continue to examine the scene.”
Large Police Presence in the Village
Witnesses reported seeing police cars, vans, and forensic teams swarming the area following the discovery. A white tent was erected in the garden of one of the homes, and a police cordon remains in place.
Neighbour Reactions: Could It Be Roman?
Local residents expressed shock and curiosity over the discovery, with some speculating that the remains could be centuries old.
Neighbour Malcolm Lister, 82, told LincolnshireLive:
“This is a quiet area – we know people by sight and one or two by name, other than that everyone keeps themselves to themselves.”
Bill Higgins, 78, added:
“The resident has been sorting out his garden and he has dug up a few bones. Nothing happens around here – we just hope it is someone who has been there for a long, long time. It could be Roman.”
Another neighbour speculated:
“Time Team have been here before, so I would say it’s probably Roman. It’s a quiet village.”
What Happens Next?
Police are examining the remains to determine their origin, while forensic experts work on establishing whether the bones are ancient or part of a more recent case.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as authorities await the results of forensic testing.
