Police Make Unexpected Discovery During Search Operation
Wiltshire Police have discovered the body of a man in his 70s in the River Avon, while searching for missing 21-year-old student Sebastian Sailes.
Sebastian, who was last seen leaving the Black Horse Pub in Chippenham at 11:30pm on February 27, remains the focus of an ongoing extensive search operation. He was captured on CCTV walking along Lovers Walk, believed to have headed towards his home in Notton.
Police Confirm No Connection Between Cases
In a statement, Wiltshire Police confirmed that the discovery of the older man’s body was unrelated to Sebastian’s disappearance.
“I can confirm that the body of a man was found this morning in the River Avon. His next of kin have been made aware, and our thoughts are with them,” a police spokesperson said.
“We understand that this development will be concerning for the public. I would like to reassure them that Sebastian’s disappearance and the discovery of this man’s body are not linked and the search for Sebastian will continue today. Sebastian’s family have been informed of this development and we are continuing to support them.”
Following the unexpected discovery, police cordoned off the area, but the scene has since been cleared.
